Riva Lee Asbell Associates 

Ms. Asbell is principal of Riva Lee Asbell Associates and is one of the nation’s top educators in ophthalmic coding, reimbursement/compliance and legal defense expertise. A Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery (Ophthalmology) at the University of Medicine and Dentistry – Robert Wood Johnson School of Medicine at Camden, she teaches for national societies, lectures and writes extensively on Medicare compliance and reimbursement issues, and consults for private and government agencies. She has authored more than 300 articles/chapters on reimbursement and compliance issues as well as two books.

A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons (Orthoptics), she is currently the sole instructor teaching ophthalmic E/M Coding trained specifically by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) (Medicare). Ms. Asbell served as Staff for Reimbursement for The American Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgery for ten years that included representation at the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) meetings and interfacing with CMS.
